As with many other instruments, Ostad used to play the Persian setār in his own personal way, at times plucking the strings “in reverse,” or in other words, from top to bottom in order to mark the accents. He integrated the technique of the tanbur, using five fingers to strike all the strings or to do rolls, with that of the setār, plucking the strings with the index finger.
