Ostad would play this Azeri lute (or sāz) in his own distinct way, holding the plectrum between his thumb and index finger, while using the other three fingers to do rolls (shor) that he combined with strikes of the plectrum. The type of choghūr that he used to play was mounted with two courses of double strings and one course of triple strings tuned in seconds.
