Tchapī (Tchūpī)
The terms Tchapī and Tchūpī mean ecstasy and enthusiasm, and designate a dance expressing spiritual exaltation. This piece, rendered on his five-string tanbur, is introduced as follows: “Tchapī intended for myself.” Later, Ostad would explain that at that moment it was as though he were inhabited by the Divine, a well-known motif in the mystical tradition.
